A partir du « terrain », les anthropologues travaillent, en partie, à construire des schémas représentant les structures de la parenté et leurs mises en œuvre propres à chaque culture. A partir de la cure analytique, les psychanalystes abordent, en particulier, les fantasmes des sujets concernant leur parenté et la généalogie de leur famille reconstruite inconsciemment depuis l’enfance. Les uns et les autres sont travaillés par des nécessités d’organisation, de compréhension, de clarification quant aux affaires de parenté. Des exemples cliniques montrent ici comment les fantasmes liés aux origines et à la procréation, à la filiation et à l’alliance, s’avèrent tout aussi fructueux pour la recherche scientifique que pour le travail psychanalytique.

Topsy turvy kinships. Based on ground work, anthropologists build schemes which represent kinship structures and their ways of functioning according to each culture. Based on the analytic work, psychoanalysts approach the subjects fantasies about their own kinship and their family genealogy which they have been unconsciously building since their infancy. Both of them are compelled by the need to organize, to understand and to clarify kinship matters. Clinical examples show how fantasies about origins and procreation, affiliation and alliance, prove to be inspiring as well to scientific research as to psychoanalytical work.
