Peut-on apporter une réponse psychanalytique à la problématique de la guerre, voire à la thématique de la «guerre juste», alors que cette notion est exclue de son mode de penser et de sa terminologie? Elle mérite cependant de quêter une articulation des notions de guerre et de droit qui correspond bien, cette fois, au questionnement freudien, sauf à le reprendre à travers une question primaire: «Pourquoi la guerre»?» (Warum Krieg)? (1). L’intérêt de ces questions nous a conduit à revisiter le discours freudien sur la guerre et de voir en quoi il peut aider à mettre en perspective cette problématique de la guerre en son envers inconscient, en ses ambiguïtés et ses enjeux. Se déploie, ici, une confrontation du savoir de l’inconscient à cette question qui touche à la mort et à l’agressivité, en sa forme collective.

War and Peace according to Freud Can psychoanalysis provide answers to the problematical nature of war or the notion of a ‘just war’, when such an idea is excluded from the very essence of its thinking and terminology? The articulation between the notion of war and that of law may however be explored and here Freud’s primary question of ‘Why War?’provides an excellent point of departure. The author’s interest for such questions led him to return to the pages of Freud’s analysis of war in order to examine in what ways Freud sheds new light on the question of war, its unconscious motivations, ambiguities and stakes. In this perspective, a confrontation between the unconscious’knowledge of this question brings such factors as death and aggressiveness in its collective form into play.
