Motherless Questioning the way in which a mother sees her daughter or a daughter her mother, in an aim to transforming that vision and turning a blind eye to the horror it produces, is a preliminary stage in the fantasising of jouissance as the transmission of femininity between mothers and daughters. F. Perrier looks at the notion of statelessness, people without a ‘fatherland’, and goes on to invent the notion of the ‘motherless,’ and with it a highly original theory on the relationship between mothers and daughters. The author of this article explores F. Perrier’s ideas and illustrates them with a number of examples taken from literature and her own clinical practice.
