Pouvoir parler du martyre aujourd’hui dans un travail d’interface entre confessions religieuses et psychanalyse est une possibilité stimulante qui ne correspond déjà plus au contexte d’il y a dix ans. En effet, de nos jours, le retour de croyances communautariennes devient massif. Quels sont les points communs et les divergences entre deux itinéraires de martyr apparemment éloignés, celui d’Antigone, d’une part, et celui, de Maximilien Kolbe mort en déportation à Auschwitz en août 1942 ? D’autre part, comment s’y joue, dans les deux cas, la dialectique du vivre et du mourir ? C’est ce que ce texte a tenté de travailler.

Martyrdom – the Dialectics of Life and Death Discussing the notion of martyrdom today, at the interface between religious confessions and psychoanalysis, is a highly stimulating prospect. The context is very different compared with ten years ago. For today, the return of communitarian beliefs is a predominant factor. This article seeks to shed light on the convergences and divergences between martyrdoms as apparently different as that of Antigone, on one hand, and Maximilien Kolbe who died during deportation to Auschwitz in August 1942 on the other. We will analyse how the dialectic opposition between living and dying is played out in each case.
