À une époque où une nation peut difficilement se définir par une population autochtone depuis plusieurs générations, la notion de citoyenneté se substitue-t-elle aux concepts de race et d’identité nationale ? L’étude de deux figures de l’extraterritorialité, celle du citoyen du monde et celle du sans domicile fixe, interroge les liens qu’un sujet peut entretenir avec son identité et sa nation. Le prix à payer pour devenir un bon citoyen d’une nation est-il autre que l’assujettissement et l’aliénation aux autorités légales qui tendent à effacer l’étrangeté originale du sujet déplacé ?

In an era when nations can no longer be defined by an indigenous population over several generations, is it possible to replace the notion of citizenship by concepts of race and national identity? This paper studies two figures of extraterritoriality, citizens of the world and the homeless, to question the links a subject may have with their own identity and nation. Is the price to pay for becoming a good citizen in a nation anything other than subjugation and alienation to the legal authorities, thereby erasing the original strangeness of the moved subject?
