Les représentations psychiques de la laideur sont liées aux figures de l’inquiétant étranger et aux angoisses de castration, de mort et de dégénérescence. Alors, la demande de reconstruction de l’image de soi vécue comme déformée que le sujet adresse à un Autre supposé savoir soulève des importants enjeux thérapeutiques et sociaux.

Within the framework of current discontent, making one’s body more beautiful has become a form of social duty, and individuals who do not respect the canons of the aesthetic Ideal find themselves the object of discrimination and are marginalised. Psychic representations of ugliness are linked to figures of the uncanny and forms of anguish related to castration, death and degeneration. In this light, the demand to reconstruct an image of self which is experienced as deformed addressed by the subject to the Other who is ‘supposed to know’, raises important therapeutic and social stakes.
