De la lettre écrite sur papier au texto tapé sur écran, le support de l’écrit et des échanges s’est transformé. Ce nouveau support a engendré différents phénomènes : l’invention d’une néographie, une écriture inscrivant l’oral ; une temporalité asynchrone, donnant l’illusion de l’instantanéité ; et peut-être un rapport à l’autre différent. En effet, le texto modifie la façon d’écrire à l’autre, le texte est plus court, moins déployé, numérique, il est truffé de smileys et d’images. Ce nouveau support transforme-t-il pour autant ces liens ? A-t-on glissé du développement d’une pensée dans la lettre écrite au témoignage d’une présence dans le texto qui déclenche la vibration du téléphone dans la poche, quand l’écran s’illumine ?

As we have gone from the written letter on paper to text messages typed onto a screen, the medium used for writing and exchanging has evolved. The new medium has engendered a number of different phenomena – the invention of a neography and oral style of writing, asynchronous temporality creating an illusion of instantaneity and perhaps even a different relationship with the other. Indeed, text messaging changes the way we write to the other, in that the text is shorter, less sophisticated and is digital in nature. It may be full of smileys and images. Does this new medium transform our bonds ? Have we gone from the elaboration of a thought process expressed in the written letter to the expression of a presence in a text message which makes our phone vibrate in our pocket and lights up its screen ?
