Le vieillissement (et la mort potentielle) du psychanalyste pose cependant la question de savoir quand (et si) il doit mettre fin à sa pratique. L’autrice examine du point de vue de l’analysant, comme de l’analyste, les arguments que l’on peut apporter dans un sens ou un autre. Elle indique aussi le rôle de la sublimation dans la vieillesse.

Since Freud, pyschoanalysts have continued to practise psychoanalysis into old age. The ageing (and potential death) of the psychoanalyst begs the question of knowing when (and if) the analyst should bring their practice to a close. The author of this paper examines this question from the point of view of both analysand and analyst and looks at the arguments which can be put forward on both sides. She also underlines the role of sublimation in old age.
