Comment ces archives ont-elles été constituées et exploitées ? L’article expose certaines des problématiques liées à la transformation d’une masse documentaire en archives exploitables. Toutefois, l’archive n’est pas le fait. L’analyse critique d’un livre récent fondé en grande partie sur le fonds SPP des Archives nationales montre les limites d’une élaboration où les archives sont confondues avec des preuves au sens juridique, et non pas historiographique.

The author describes the existence of two collections of SPP documents. One is at the Archives nationales and covers the period from 1950 to 1997, while the other, located at the Society’s headquarters, covers the same period plus more recent items. How were these archives created and used? The article sets out some of the issues involved in transforming a mass of documents into exploitable archives. However, archives are not fact. A critical analysis of a recent book based largely on the SPP collection at the Archives nationales shows the limits of an approach in which archives are confused with evidence in the legal, rather than the historiographical, sense.
