We analyze in this paper the effects on subjectivity of what several sociologists from the Frankfurt School, in particular George Lukács and Axel Honneth, have termed "reification," the most common expression of which consists in treating oneself and others as objects. This tendency toward reification has spread widely in Western culture and seems to have consequences on the structuration of the subject’s personality, particularly taking the form of an alteration of their capacity to play and dream. In this regard, we propose to consider certain contemporary psychopathological expressions as pathologies of dreaming, disorders that involve the most fundamental aspects of the constitution of the psyche. We also examine how such conceptions transform the way analytic practices, particularly those drawing on the theories of Winnicott and Bion, are conceived. Psychoanalysis thus emerges as a space for play and dreaming based on the primacy of recognition, offering a means of counterbalancing the tendency toward reification.

Nous analysons dans ce travail les effets sur la subjectivité de ce que plusieurs sociologues de l’école de Frankfort, en particulier George Lukács et Axel Honneth, ont nommé la réification et dont l’expression la plus commune consiste à se traiter soi-même et les autres comme un objet. Cette tendance à la réification s’est largement diffusée dans la culture occidentale et semble avoir des conséquences sur la structuration de la personnalité du sujet, ce qui prend en particulier la forme d’une altération de sa capacité à jouer et à rêver. Dans cette perspective, nous proposons de considérer certaines expressions psychopathologiques contemporaines comme des pathologies de la rêverie qui impliquent les arcanes les plus originaires de la constitution de l’appareil psychique. Nous étudions également comment de telles conceptions transforment la manière de concevoir les pratiques analytiques référées en particulier aux théories de Winnicott et de Bion. La psychanalyse apparaît ainsi comme un espace de jeu et de rêve fondé sur le primat de la reconnaissance offrant un contrepoids aux tendances à la réification.
