Il y a relativement peu d’articles sur les grands-parents, encore moins sur la fonction grand-parentale. Pourtant les grands-parents jouent un rôle fondamental dans le cycle vital d’une famille ainsi que dans le système thérapeutique où ils constituent un des pôles essentiels du travail avec les trois générations. A partir d’exemples cliniques, cet article montre comment des grands-parents ont pu être utilisés dans des thérapies de couple et de famille. Ceci permettra de dégager une fonction grand-parentale complexe com~portant plusieurs aspects: recours, médiation, ouverture et transmission.

Grandparenting function.There are relatively few articles on the grandparents, lesser on the grandparenting function. Nevertheless, grandparents play a fundamental role in the vital family cycle, and in the therapeutic system, wherein they are an essential and constitutive pole for the work with the three generations. Starting from clinical examples, this article shows how it was possible to use grandparents in couple and family therapies. This enables the emergence of the complex grandparenting function, which includes dif~ferent aspects: recourse, mediation, openness and transmission.

Función de los abuelos.Existen bastante pocos artículos sobre los abuelos, aún menos sobre la función de los abuelos. Sin embargo los abuelos desempeñan un papel fundamental en el ciclo vital de una familia así como en el sistema terapeútico donde constituyen uno de los polos esenciales del trabajo con las tres generaciones. A partir de ejemplos clínicos, este artículo muestra cómo algunos abuelos han podido ser utilizados en terapias de pareja y familia. Esto permitirá lograr una función a los abuelos compleja que implicará varios aspectos: recurso, mediación, apertura y transmisión.
