Résumé L’œuvre de Paul Ricœur est certainement riche de tout un ensemble de notions qui peuvent s’avérer précieuses pour la réflexion éducative, en particulier la notion d’initiative. Cet article s’attache dans un premier temps à en restituer les contours, pour elle-même, tout en prenant en garde certains aspects de la conceptualité ou du « système » de cette philosophie. Il s’attache ensuite à un aspect, tenu pour central, de cette notion et le développe en s’aidant de Montaigne, d’Alain et de Deligny.

Paul Ricœur’s work certainly abounds in a whole corpus of notions which may prove to be invaluable for thinking about education. Among them is the notion of initiative. This article first traces its contours for itself, while retaining some aspects of the conceptuality or “system” of this philosophy. Then the article turns to a central aspect of this notion which it develops with references to Montaigne, Alain and de Deligny.
