Résumé : La distinction, relativement récente, entre emploi prédicatif et argumental du nom a fondamentalement modifié l’analyse du fonctionnement de ce dernier. En effet, cette nouvelle vision a apporté un nouvel éclairage à certains faits jusque-là ignorés, parmi lesquels la relation entre prédicativité et fonction sujet.L’analyse dans cette perspective de deux corpus d’environ 1 000 phrases attestées a donné lieu à un nombre considérable d’occurrences de sujets définis de verbes négatifs mais nous n’avons relevé aucun prédicatif indéfini assumant cette fonction.Nous en concluons qu’il n’existe aucune contrainte à ce qu’un substantif prédicatif puisse être sujet d’un verbe négatif à condition que ce substantif soit actualisé par un déterminant défini et en particulier un défini singulier, en revanche, il semblerait qu’il existe de fortes contraintes, voire un blocage total quant à l’association entre sujet indéfini prédicatif et négation.

The relatively recent distinction between the predicative use of the noun and its use as an argument has fundamentally modified the analysis of the latter. Indeed, this new vision has brought a new light on some hitherto unknown facts, among which we mention the relation between predicativity and subject function.The analysis, in this perspective, of about two corpuses of about 1,000 attested sentences showed a considerable number of occurrences of defined subjects of negative verbs but we found no indefinite predicate assuming this function.We conclude that there is no constraint in the fact that a predicative noun can be subject of a negative verb provided that this noun is preceded by a definite determiner and more precisely a singular one, nevertheless, it would seem that there are strong constraints, even a total blocking of the association between an indefinite predicative subject and negation.
