<br/><br/> RésumeMême s'il suscite encore de nombreux débats, le principe de compensation écologique pour les dégâts causés à la biodiversité lors de projets d’aménagements a finalement été adopté en mars dernier dans le cadre de la loi « Biodiversité ».À travers l'exemple de la réhabilitation écologique et pastorale du verger de Cossure en plaine de Crau, première expérimentation française de compensation écologique par l'offre, les auteurs s'intéressent ici au bilan écologique et économique de l'opération pour en dégager les effets positifs, mais également les dysfonctionnements et les limites.  The first French reserve of natural assets has been created since 2009 on Cossure site in the plain of La Crau (Bouches-du-Rhône) with CDC Biodiversity, subsidiary of the “Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations”, under the aegis of the French Ministry of Ecology. This operation has three objectives: (i) rehabilitate ecological continuities with the adjacent Natural Reserve of the “Coussouls de Crau”, (ii) support the local sheep sector and (iii) test the first French compensation mechanism offer. The first ecological monitoring show that rehabilitation has allowed the creation of a favorable herbaceous plant formation which allows the return of the steppe avifauna but the results over the long term cannot yet be definitively predicted. The economical analysis of the experiment reveals some risks in the organization of the device in its sustainability and at the level of the rules that frame it. The results of this experiment emphasize on the one hand, the technical difficulties to rehabilitate ecosystems and on the other hand, the limits of this mitigation bank mechanism. This mechanism offers opportunities to improve nature conservation actions but it is still important that mitigation banks do not ultimately replace conservation actions for biodiversity.
