<br/><br/> RésuméCet article aborde la question de l’éventuelle inadaptation du modèle européen à la nouvelle trajectoire de croissance fondée sur la connaissance et l’innovation. L’Union européenne ne paraît pas en mesure d’atteindre l’objectif de Lisbonne, c’est-à-dire devenir l’économie de la connaissance la plus compétitive en 2010. Les arguments imputant la responsabilité de cet échec annoncé aux institutions du modèle européen et à l’insuffisante avancée des réformes structurelles sont analysés de façon critique. La transition vers un modèle néo-libéral n’est pas la seule option possible pour les pays européens.  This paper deals with the question of the possible incompatibility between the European model of capitalism and the new knowledge-based economy. The European Union does not seem able to reach the objective of the Lisbon Summit, i.e. to become the world’s most competitive knowledge-based economy in 2010. The alleged responsibility of the institutions characteristic of the European model and the lack of structural reforms in this foretold failure are critically examined. The transition towards a neo-liberal model is not the only option left to European countries.
