<br/><br/> Il n’est pas surprenant que nombre de Professeurs d’université aient fait preuve de patriotisme en se solidarisant avec leur pays, l’Allemagne, lorsque a éclaté la Première Guerre mondiale. Il est, en revanche, tout à fait étonnant que cette littérature patriotique ait très tôt basculé dans une propagande qui allait à l’encontre même de leurs convictions philosophiques, qui les poussait, pour certains, à une surenchère telle que la guerre apparaissait comme une épreuve quasi divine où la mort jouait un rôle de purification salutaire et sacrificielle, confinant au gnosticisme.  It is not amazing that number of professors have prooved patriotism in showing solidarity with their land, Germany, when the first world war breaks out. On the other hand, it is quite astonishing that this patriotic literature has very soon gone over to a propaganda that run very counter their philosophical convictions, which drove some of them to bid as higher as the war seemed a near divine ordeal, death playing role of bordered on gnosticism salutary and sacrificial cleansing and atonement.
