The author suggests that concern for the collective was a central issue for Jean-Pierre Pinel throughout his life, and that it is simultaneously a challenge for the contemporary period. Bearing witness to a bond of companionship and fraternity, he develops his thoughts by examining the correlation between the “material” that they jointly reflected on, and some of the major dynamics that specified their generation: birth in the immediate post-war period, cultural migration, colouring by the ’68 moment, and at the same time the absence of inscription of men as murderers in the service of the “homeland”.
