Holocaust revisionism, Holocaust denial, and Holocaust distortion: the search for a terminology through the evolution of Holocaust denial - 2025.

In 2013, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance dded an important nuance to the definition of anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial by incorporating the concept of distortion of the Holocaust. But what subtle nuances distinguish these terms, what brings them together, and what does the word “revisionism,” which Holocaust deniers use for self-identification purposes, really mean? This distinction differentiates negationism, a radical ideological movement made up of various associations, from any attempt to rewrite history. The term “negationism” refers to those who attempt to deny genocide, and should not be used to refer to other crimes or threats. Holocaust denial has evolved over time and around the world. An analysis of its rhetoric, arguments, and underlying ideologies, as well as the dangers associated with the most extreme currents, sheds light on the present situation, illustrated by the case of the German terrorist who made denialist remarks during the attack in Halle in October 2019.
