Avec le temps, Avignon est devenue une ville-Festival transfigurée par les attentes multiples de ses spectateurs-festivaliers. Chacun espère y trouver théâtre à son goût, et retrouver l’intensité, l’émotion originelle d’un premier grand moment de théâtre. C’est sans doute la raison pour laquelle le Festival d’Avignon est à ce point porteur de grandes aspirations, mais aussi de grandes déceptions; Audiences at the Festival of Avignon are different from any other type of audience. Over the course of time, Avignon has become a festival town transfigured by the various expectations of its festival audiences. Everyone hopes to attend performances suited to their own taste, and experience anew the intensity and original emotion of a great theatrical moment. No doubt this is the reason why the Festival of Avignon is the theatre of so many great expectations as well as so many huge disappointments
