<br/><br/> La question des concepts juridiques, et particulièrement de leur défini¬tion, est au cœur de la théorie du droit d’Alf Ross, lequel lui a consacré spécifiquement de nombreux écrits importants. Elle l’a conduit à poser les fondements pour une analyse critique du langage juridique, à partir des¬quels se sont développées plusieurs écoles théoriques actuelles. Cette interrogation l’a amené à une réflexion toujours actuelle relative à l’ana¬lyse de la signification, qui doit beaucoup aux travaux des philosophes analytiques du début du XXe siècle et notamment à ceux de Russell. Il reste que cette analyse a subi quelques évolutions non négligeables qui éloignent Ross d’une conception strictement référentielle de la signifi¬cation ; elle a fait l’objet de critiques, mais contribue à renouveler les modes d’approches des concepts juridiques en général.  Alf Ross and the Referential Conception of Meaning in LawWhat is a legal concept and how one defines it are central questions in Alf Ross’s theory to which he has dedicated many important texts. It led him to give birth to a critical analysis of the legal language, that has been followed by many contemporary theoretical schools. This questioning brought him to a still relevant reflection on the analysis of meaning which owes a lot to the prime philosophers from the analytical school and especially to Russell. However, Ross has modified such an analysis and abandoned a strictly referential conception of meaning ; this has been criticised but has nevertheless contributed to new approaches in legal concepts.
