The American War of Independence on the walls of the Saint-Gabriel Priory (1775–1783) - 2019.

The Saint-Gabriel Priory has numerous graffiti on the walls of several buildings. The themes evoked are extremely varied, ranging from simple inscriptions and representations of humans and animals to religious symbols. There are also several graffiti of boats, notably on the lintel of the fireplace in the “hall of justice.” These make up a frieze of four anchored ships. The schematization of these representations makes it possible to distinguish different types: a cargo ship, a ship of the line, a frigate, a corvette. Together they form a small naval division. This eighteenth-century graffiti could be associated with the Vaussieux camp episode in 1778, during the American War of Independence.
