N2  - Pluralism, as a characteristic of pragmatism, should not be confused with relativism. Pragmatism changes the old fixed and closed rationality into a new open rationality, and sees relativism and anti-relativism as conniving philosophical partners. It escapes moral scepticism by claiming that we are able to decide between alternative choices without referring to any transcendental principle or justification. Social hope is its cornerstone. Languages and values are diverse, but incommensurability is not a consequence of such a diversity
