N1 - 80 N2 - The furniture of archives and libraries in ancient Greece is largely unknown, since the material–wood–has disappeared. While it is plausible that scripts of small collections might have been kept in chests, this hypothesis cannot be posited for the large public archives and libraries which developed in the fourth century and the Hellenistic period. A closer look at texts and archaeology allows one to reconstruct a sometimes "built in" and sometimes free-standing compartmentalized system for some libraries and archives. The author suggests that the word kibotos in several Hellenistic inscriptions was such a filing system, similar to modern library usage UR - https://shs.cairn.info/journal-revue-archeologique-2007-2-page-293?lang=en ER -
