N2  - The author of this paper is a psychologist in a psychiatric institution and in this paper explores the role of the psychotherapist from the perspective of a clinical case with a ‘sex-addicted’ patient. A theoretical-clinical analysis rooted in identification with the patient is outlined here. The analysis also establishes links with culture, and more specifically cave art and literature. It provides a conceptualisation of a form of contemporary jouissance which might be defined as the ‘jouissance of Harpagon’ and invites the reader to invent human relationships in which this form of jouissance would allow for originality within singular subjective experiences
