Tourism Development in Vietnam: the Potential of Agritourism - 2025.

10

Tourism is now one of the pillars of Vietnam’s economic development. This industry developed in the course of the 90s in a particular context of openness to the market economy under the control of the Communist Party. Vietnam’s tourism strategy, which is now more focused on sustainable tourism, makes it necessary to rethink the mode of governance of this sector. The Vietnamese Government correctly assessed the role and position of tourism to the socio-economic development, so there was a policy of restructuring the tourism industry to ensure professionalism, modernity and sustainable development. In the orientation of Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy, eco-tourism associated with agriculture and rural areas is identified as one of the key product lines. This model helps farmers to switch from traditional agriculture to recreational agriculture, bringing high efficiency for both Agriculture and Tourism (Wilkerson, 2003; Daniels, 2001). The aim of this paper is to study the Vietnam tourism development and the role of agritourism. Firstly, we present the developing agritourism in the world. Secondly, we identify the potential of agritourism in sustainable tourism development in Vietnam. Finally, we discuss about the solutions for developing agricultural tourism in Vietnam.
