The threat that industrial globalization represents to life on Earth prompts us to reappraise human cultural rootedness as the sole means to preserve and maintain life in all its richness and diversity. Prior to the appearance of the borders that separate nation-states and serve as ramparts to the capitalist and techno-scientific development of the new industrial world, this rootedness was none other than what we commonly referred to when using the word “country” (“ pays”). What is left of the “country” today? Is it desirable or even possible to “go back” there in one form or the other? These are the main questions presently addressed.
