Evaluation of practices relating to sexual health in cancer care among members of a patient association

<br/><br/> Sexual health is an integral part of health and well-being, as well as quality of life as a whole. As cancer has a real impact on sexual health, it is important to evaluate professional practices in this area, particularly among those working for a patient association. Questionnaires were drawn up and distributed to private practitioners. Of the 33 responses, more than half did not discuss sexuality, intimacy or sexual health with patients. Practitioners gave an average score of 2.73 (1=not at all and 5=very much so) for the impression that they were sufficiently armed. The main needs identified were specific training and time to exchange and share experiences with other professionals. The entire panel was unanimous on the importance of taking into account the sexual health of cancer patients. Patients have high expectations in this area, and those working in the field must dare to talk about sexuality, while remaining aware of the limits of their skills.
