The author’s previous work on a psychoanalytical conception of care is taken up here to examine the notion of health and socio-cultural (and political) issues, in order to propose an outline of a general psychoanalytical theory of health and culture. Additionally, the concept of the centrality of democratic forms of sociability, transcending the scope of direct or representative democracy as recognised by political science, is presented as a fundamental basis for physical and mental health. This is because it fosters extensive and equitable exchanges of care, facilitating individual and collective access to cultural objects (aesthetic, scientific, and institutional), understood as transformational objects of care.
