French research on information practice is based on a variety of epistemological and methodological foundations and is carried out across a diverse range of fieldwork contexts. Referring to Ihadjadene and Chaudiron’s 2009 definition, we defend a communicational approach to the study of information practices in the French educational field. This info-communicational approach, characterized by a semiotic orientation, seeks to apprehend the information practices of students and teachers in their working environments through the media devices they use.
