N2  - La maison des Quatrans, l’un des plus célèbres édifices de la ville de Caen, est réputée avoir été habitée à la fin du xive siècle par Jean Quatrans, tabellion, dont les descendants auraient fui la ville envahie par les Anglais en 1417 et n’y seraient jamais revenus. Cependant, la compilation de documents d’archives permet de réfuter ces différentes affirmations : les Quatrans habitaient un peu plus loin et ils sont revenus à Caen après 1450. Quant à la maison, elle a en fait été construite vers 1460 pour un riche tanneur, Michel Le Fevre. Les sources documentaires permettent en outre de préciser ses dispositions et son évolution architecturale; Reinventing history: The Quatran’s House in CaenOne of the most well-known buildings in Caen, Jean Quatran, an estate lawyer, is believed to have lived in this house in the late 14th century. His descendants fled the town when it was invaded by the English in 1417. Nevertheless, numerous documents refute these affirmations: the Quatrans lived further away and they came back to Caen after 1450.
