N2  - RésuméCet essai se veut une lecture sociologique du « Téléphone », un des textes autobiographiques de Walter Benjamin sur son enfance. Il tente de situer d’abord la mémoire de Benjamin dans son contexte socio-historique et d’interpréter ses significations culturelles tout en s’appuyant sur la première histoire du téléphone en Europe. Il s’agit de défaire la trame de l’expérience de la modernité que Benjamin a décrite à travers ses souvenirs des usages du téléphone. Suivant et modulant le motif benjaminien à sa propre manière, cet essai a pour but de montrer comment les usages des technologies de la communication jouent un rôle important dans la formation de la (post-)modernité en tant qu’expérience collective; This paper is a sociological reading of “The telephone”, one of the autobiographical texts of Walter Benjamin on his childhood. It attempts to put the recollections of Benjamin in socio-historical context, and to interpret their cultural significations on the basis of earlier history of telephone in Europe. The point is to deconstruct the experience of modernity which Benjamin described through his memories of telephone uses. By taking and modulating a benjaminian motif in its own way, this paper aims to demonstrate how the uses of communication technologies play an important role in the formation of (post-)modernity as collective experience
