Therapies designed for Children Who Stutter (CWS) focus on modifying the relational style and verbal behavior of the parents with their child. CWS suffer from difficulties in speech as well as linguistic problems. The characteristics of mothers’ language ( motherese) addressed to a stuttering child is compared with the motherese of control mothers and with that of mothers whose child presents a delay in language development. The Motherese of CWS does not cause or contribute to the child’s speech and language problems.
