N2  - RésuméQuand Katrina s’abat sur la Nouvelle-Orléans en août 2005, il semble d’abord qu’on doive compter la musique parmi les victimes de l’ouragan. Pourtant, c’est à un redoublement de l’activité musicale qu’on assiste par la suite. Ressource adaptée à la récolte de fonds (de concerts et d’albums caritatifs), la musique se révèle être l’un des outils de la reconstruction matérielle et symbolique de la ville. Dans leur réponse à l’ouragan, les artistes ont privilégié les reprises, au point que ce format musical en est venu à symboliser l’après-Katrina. Cet article examine les spécificités de ces reprises, et se concentre sur leurs trois fonctions principales : maintenir une continuité culturelle, refonder la communauté et offrir une lecture historique, parmi d’autres, de l’ouragan; When Katrina hit New Orleans in August 2005, it first seemed that music would figure among the casualties of the storm. Yet given the sheer outpouring of songs and shows that followed, it soon became clear that musical activity would play a major role in the reconstruction of the city, both on a material and a symbolic level. No musical format has been more present in the post-Katrina era than the cover song. It has come to symbolize the community's response to the storm, and can help one understand the unique role music has played in New Orleans. This article examines the specificity of cover songs in the musical reaction to Katrina. It focuses on what the author considers to be their three most fundamental functions: affirming resilience, rebuilding community, and allowing for a historical reading of the storm
