<br/><br/> En hommage à Jean-François Mattéi, décédé brutalement en mars 2014, on cherche à dégager le ressort de son œuvre, placée sous le signe de la répétition et du retour : répétition de la question de l’être, mouvement d’exil et de retour de l’âme du philosophe, à l’image des mouvements ascendants puis descendants que met en scène le mythe platonicien de la caverne. Ce thème a une provenance mythique : pour Mattéi, Ulysse semble bien l’archétype du philosophe, et l’Odyssée le modèle de la philosophie.  A tribute to philosopher Jean-François Mattéi, who suddenly passed away in March 2014, this paper intends to identify the impetus for his work, in which repetition and return have pride of place: the repetition of the question of being, the wanderings of the philosopher’s soul, modelled after the ascent and descent depicted by the Platonist myth of the Cave. Such a theme has a mythical origin: according to Mattéi, Ulysses indeed seems to be the archetype of the philosopher, and the Odyssey the model for philosophy.
