Reflection on the (mis)uses of participation in social work

<br/><br/> Based on a socio-historical approach to the transformations of social work, this article describes how professionals in this sector have approached the concept of participation. It emphasizes misuse by public policies and the resulting consequences for the beneficiaries of social action. Finally, the author calls for a re-examination of the modalities of social intervention based on logics of empowerment that allow the actors concerned to free themselves from these constraints.
