N2  - This article aims to investigate Jacques Heim’s initiative to establish a branch in Rio de Janeiro, in May 1958. It seeks to examine what would have led the couturier to choose the then Brazilian capital and, also, how and to what extent his project was in line with the strategies of the French fashion industry and, in particular, of haute couture, in order to maintain control of its creations, in a context of high incidence of copies and structural changes in clothing production in several countries, mainly the United States
