The spatial approach through the prism of territory seems particularly fruitful for understanding and analysing the conditions and expressions of transformations towards sustainability, and for contributing to a geography of sustainability transitions. This article proposes to test a multidimensional conceptual framework of territorial transformations (Pachoud et al., 2022), while analysing the dynamics of transformation of the agri-food system in the Cœur des Bauges in Savoie (France). This framework proposes to understand territorial transformation through the prism of the three fundamental dimensions of territory (ideal, material and political) and their interactions. Our case study incorporates these three dimensions. The results allowed to add a significant nuance to this heuristic framework. On the one hand, we characterised a dominant conventional territoriality, focused on dairy farming to produce the Tome des Bauges PDO cheese in its materiality, identity and rules. On the other hand, we identified an emerging alternative territoriality which, although heterogeneous, is characterised by a common effort to diversify production, respect the environment (organic farming) and aim for greater food autonomy. Although still marginal, this alternative territoriality is marked by its own imaginaries, a specific material expression in space as well as by forms of organisation that diverge from the dominant one. In order to identify and support territorial transformations, this article proposes to analyse the tensions, conflicts, complementarities and convergences between these territorialities, in terms of ideals, materialities and politics. Les transformations sociétales sont situées dans l’espace et dépendent des contextes dans lesquels elles se déploient. L’approche territoriale nous apparaît particulièrement féconde pour comprendre et analyser les conditions et expressions des transformations vers la soutenabilité, et pour contribuer à une géographie des transitions soutenables. Cet article propose de mettre à l’épreuve un cadre conceptuel multidimensionnel des transformations territoriales (Pachoud et al., 2022), en le mobilisant pour analyser les dynamiques de transformation du système agri-alimentaire dans le Cœur des Bauges situé en Savoie. Ce cadre propose d’appréhender la transformation territoriale au prisme des trois dimensions fondamentales du territoire (idéelle, matérielle et politique) et de leurs interactions. L’analyse de notre étude de cas intègre ces trois dimensions territoriales. Les résultats nous ont permis d’apporter une nuance notable à ce cadre heuristique. D’une part, nous avons pu caractériser une territorialité conventionnelle dominante, tournée vers l’élevage bovin lait pour produire de la tome des Bauges AOP dans sa matérialité, son identité et ses règles. D’autre part, nous avons identifié une territorialité alternative émergente, qui, bien qu’hétérogène, se caractérise par un effort commun de diversification des productions, de respect de l’environnement (agriculture biologique) et un objectif de plus grande autonomie alimentaire locale. Encore marginale, cette territorialité alternative est marquée par des imaginaires propres, une expression matérielle dans l’espace et une organisation qui diverge de celle dominante.
