The latest advances in neuroscience are questioning previous rationalist views of human thinking that have prevailed since Descartes and the Enlightenment. Based on clinical observations and neurological data, processing thoughts, decisions, and behavior via the emotions seems to be an essential part of information processing and the functional organization of the brain, thereby supporting the theory that emotions aid in making decisions and assist in reasoning.
