Performativité des lumières : les projets d'émancipation de Toland et Dohm

<br/><br/> Récemment, des thèses historiographiques hautement aventurées et contestables ont cherché à démontrer que les Lumières étaient responsables notamment de la dérive totalitaire (incluant l'antisémitisme) de la modernité. Il nous a paru important de montrer en analysant les essais de Toland et de Dohm que l'émancipation des Juifs quelles que soient les insuffisances des objectifs poursuivis ne pouvait être comprise que comme née de la philosophie des Lumières. Seules les Lumières possédaient assez de performativité pour inscrire dans la réalité juridique et politique des Etats cette demande d'émancipation. Et c'est bien par elles qu'elle fut réalisée.  Recently some highly tentative and questionable historiographical hypotheses have endeavored to argue that the Enlightenment could be blamed for some modem totalitarian currents such as antisemitism. Therefore in the light of Toland's and Dohm's essays, it seemed essential to show that the emancipation of the Jews was a byproduct of the Enlightenment, even if the professed goals were not always reached. This emancipation was brought on the judiciary and political agenda of the States and could only materialize thanks to the Enlightenment.
