Evaluation of the impact of educational workshops on lung transplant patients’ knowledge regarding their treatments - 2023.

67

Lung transplantation requires a complex therapeutic approach, exposing patients to potential iatrogenic and infectious complications. Since 2013, our institution has implemented a Patient Education Program specifically for lung transplant recipients. Since November 2020, pharmacy interns and students have actively participated in delivering follow-up educational workshops on treatments. To assess the impact of these workshops on patient knowledge, we conducted an EnPhaSE study (Entretien Pharmaceutique – Suivi et Education). This single-center, non-interventional, and comparative before-and-after study involved 2 educational sessions held 3 months apart, with a knowledge assessment questionnaire administered at the beginning of each session. The results of this study demonstrate a significant impact on patient knowledge, with the average knowledge score rising notably during the second session (93 ± 12 versus 68 ± 26; p < 0.001). Additionally, participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with these educational workshops. This work contributes to enhancing the health care journey of lung transplant patients and underscores the beneficial impact of pharmaceutical educational workshops on improving patients’ understanding of their treatments.
