<br/><br/> This article analyzes the ontological, not classist, nature of Machiavelli’s argument that the people should be the guardians of freedom. To this end, two fundamental elements of Machiavellian ontology are highlighted: its relational character and the refusal of any exteriority of form in relation to matter.
