<br/><br/> L’article revient sur l’introduction de nouveaux instruments de contrôle et de gestion de la politique de développement agricole au début des années 1970. Ce tournant managérial n’est pas imposé de l’extérieur, il s’inscrit dans les luttes internes au champ des organisations professionnelles agricoles françaises et des administrations d’État spécifiques à ce secteur. Les nouvelles méthodes introduites dans le sillage de la politique de Rationalisation des choix budgétaires (RCB) participent à délégitimer l’ancienne conception du développement agricole qui liait la sélection des agriculteurs à la promotion des exploitations familiales, pour favoriser la parcellisation du travail de conseil agricole, la primauté accordées aux indicateurs de performance, la spécialisation et l’intensification des productions.  Public Management and Agricultural DevelopmentThis article examines how new tools to control and manage agricultural development policy were introduced in the early 1970s. This managerial turn was not imposed from the outside, but was part and parcel of internal fights in French professional agricultural organisations and specific administrative branches. The new methods introduced in the wake of the Rationalisation des choix budgétaires (RCB, Rationalisation of Budget Choices) policy helped to delegitimise the traditional concept of agricultural development, which linked the selection of farmers with the promotion of family farms, instead favouring the fragmentation of the work of the agricultural council, relying on performance indicators, and encouraging specialisation and intensification.
