The Role of the Clinician and Crossed Self-Confrontation - 2006.

17

This paper analyses the activity of a researcher who works on the basis of the methods called “clinique de l’activité” (Clot, cnam, Paris) during an intervention in an industrial firm. Having introduced request, its objectives and some elements of the work context, the paper presents a sequence of interview – transcribed and reproduced in the text – collected within the framework of the method of crossed selfconfrontation. In this sequence, two drivers of travelling crane from a logistics service comment on videoclips of their daily work activity with the clinician. In a first-level analysis, we suggest that the function of the researcher changes in the course of this dialogue: he acts as to “embody” dilemma and difficult questions of the profession, on which the professionals themselves can then decide to resume discussion between them, without him, and with their hierarchy. This movement could be characteristic of our methods.
