<br/><br/> Reference to the Book of Esther is not common in theological reflection on the Shoah. However, the theme of the “hidden face” of God, Hester Panim, which rhymes with the hidden God of Esther and the masks beneath which Jews hide their face during the feast of Pourim, throws a new light on the intolerable silence of God in the tragedy orchestrated by the Nazis.
