The author pays tribute to the fruitfulness of Didier Anzieu’s theory by applying it to two different fields of investigation : gerontology and rituality. First, she shows the alteration of psychic envelopes in normal aging as well as in the total collapse of the Ego-skin in Alzheimer-type senile dementia. Then she demonstrates the therapeutic efficiency of ritual –which she assimilates to a collective Ego-skin by the activation of its operant functions.
