N1 - 27 N2 - Fab labs are open spaces for making and experimenting that make use of digital technology. While recent research from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds is beginning to document these expanding spaces, few authors have asked who these new creative spaces are really for. We propose to define fab labs in relation to existing support structures in six recent studies. The results demonstrate the low occurrence of the word “entrepreneur.” This can be explained by the emergence of less classical figures of the entrepreneur such as hybrid and independent entrepreneurs. This new reality (re)emphasizes the subversive dimension of entrepreneurship.
