Reflections on Qualitative Research on the Treatment of Pedophiles

This article presents a summary of the main findings of a qualitative study on the motivation for treatment of pedophile sex abusers. These findings underline the importance for these patients to acquire a sense of mastery, to progress in a stable and well-defined environment, and to have access to strong and authoritarian therapists. These results are discussed in reference to psychodynamic theory and to the raging debate regarding manualized psychotherapies.
