Reality and Imagination in Psychotherapy - 2002.

6

In order to evaluate the progress of a psychotherapy, we generally use parameters related to the concept of reality (behavior, adequacy, capacity for communication, etc.). Nevertheless, to a large extent, the imagination includes not only fantasy, but also day and nocturnal dreams. It can play a major role in the approach to treatment. Therefore, this paper suggests that therapists should empathize with the patient’s inner world and attempt to increase the patient’s capacity to produce fantasies.
