Pregnancy and the Group - 2004.

61

The author deals with the effects of pregnancy on psychoanalytical group therapy. A participant’s pregnancy has as great an effect on the dynamics of the group as on the individual. She becomes a “projection attractor” mobilising oedipal and pregenital phantasies. A few examples illustrate the movements usually encountered. Reactions vary according to sex, group type and personal history. The importance of minute analysis of countertransference is underlined.
