Epistemological and methodological reflections on the empirical study of male grief
- 2026.

Some preconceptions exist regarding what constitutes “good grief.” We address the way these preconceptions shape male bereavement research. Through both an epistemological and a methodological lens, we discuss the possible consequences of such preconceptions on the conceptualization, observation, and interpretation of mourning experiences. We also suggest further reflection on the impact that data collection methods may have on the empirical study of men’s grief.
